How to Prepare a Perfect Matcha?
The complete guide to mastering your Japanese ritual
Preparing matcha is much more than a simple recipe. Rooted in Japanese tradition, this preparation is a true ritual that invites you to slow down, take care of yourself and savor a moment of calm.
With the right utensils and a few simple steps, you will obtain a perfectly smooth, delicately frothy matcha, rich in flavor.
Whether you enjoy it traditionally or as a latte, here is everything you need to know to succeed with your preparation.
Why use specific utensils?
For centuries, the Japanese have used accessories specially designed for preparing matcha. Each utensil has a specific function and contributes to the quality of the tasting.
Thanks to them, you get:
- a perfectly smooth texture;
- a light, creamy foam;
- better dissolving of the powder;
- an authentic experience, faithful to Japanese tradition.
At Veegreen, we have selected quality accessories so that everyone can easily recreate this ritual at home.
The bowl, called Chawan in Japanese, is the central element of the preparation.
Unlike a classic cup, it has a wide opening that makes it easy to whisk matcha without spilling the preparation.
Its slightly rounded base helps the whisk create a smooth foam and makes it easier to blend the powder with the water.
Why choose the Veegreen Matcha Bowl?
- a shape ideal for achieving a beautiful foam;
- ceramic that is pleasant to hold;
- excellent stability during preparation;
- an elegant design inspired by Japanese tradition.
Matcha requires precise dosing. Traditionally, a bamboo spoon called Chashaku is used, specially designed to gently scoop the powder without compacting it.
It makes it easy to achieve the same balance every time you prepare it.
Our tip for Veegreen Matcha
To fully enjoy the aromas of our matcha, we recommend:
This dosage offers a harmonious balance between sweetness, vegetal notes, umami and light intensity.
The bamboo whisk, called Chasen, is certainly the most iconic accessory for preparing matcha.
Made from a single piece of bamboo, it has many very fine tines that allow you to:
- remove lumps;
- incorporate air into the preparation;
- create the famous green foam of traditional matcha.
Unlike a spoon or a small metal whisk, the Chasen respects the delicacy of the powder and produces a more even texture.
Before each use
Soak the whisk for about a minute in lukewarm water. The tines become more flexible and hold up better over time.
The right technique
Whisk quickly, drawing an M or W shape, without making circular movements.
In about fifteen seconds, a fine, light foam forms naturally.
Often overlooked, the whisk holder, called Kusenaoshi, is nevertheless essential for extending the life of your whisk.
After each use
- simply rinse your whisk under clear water;
- place it immediately on its holder;
- let it air-dry naturally.
Its shape allows the tines to keep their original curve.
The result:
- a whisk that lasts much longer;
- foam that stays just as light over many preparations.
How to prepare your Veegreen Matcha?
Heat the water
Matcha should never be prepared with boiling water.
We recommend a temperature between 70 and 80°C to preserve its aromas and avoid excessive bitterness.
Measure the matcha
Add one good measuring spoon of Veegreen Matcha, about 2 g, to your bowl.
Then add about 70 ml of hot water.
Whisk
Using the Veegreen Matcha Whisk, previously moistened, whisk quickly in M or W movements.
After about fifteen seconds, a fine, velvety foam appears on the surface.
Enjoy
Your traditional matcha is ready.
Take a few moments to appreciate:
- its emerald green color;
- its vegetal fragrance;
- its creamy texture;
- its delicate umami notes.
A true Japanese ritual
In Japan, tasting is an integral part of the tea ritual. It invites you to pause, observe the color of the matcha, breathe in its aroma and savor each sip slowly.
With Veegreen accessories and a few simple steps, you can easily recreate this moment of calm and mindfulness at home.
